Wondering if you can switch to T8 LED tubes from T8 fluorescent in your fixture?
Turns out there is not just one answer, and it pays to do a bit of research first.
If the fixture is working fine and you want LED for energy efficiency and savings, make sure the tubes you install will work with the ballast. Otherwise you might find it works at first only to short out later creating the need to change the ballast or sockets anyway.
If the ballast is worn out in your fixture it may be worth the time and money to retrofit the troffer to LED only.
Additionally, an LED retrofit can be a great solution to areas where you do not want to change the entire troffer. I just did one today for the first time and found it very simple to do and much cleaner that changing a whole fixture.
